why are movie tickets so much freaking money?
i mean really??? 12 bucks to sit in a theater breathing the air of a hundred other people, having to hear them cough and crinkle their candy wrappers. AND you limit my student discount to certain days and certain times and certain movies? really movie theaters? for the price of two tickets i can buy the movie once it comes out.
oh well, anyone know of any discounts or printable coupons for the theater? either AMC or regal?

Because we, the stupid public, will pay those outrageous prices. When enough of us start boycotting movie theatres, the prices will come down. It is a matter of simple economics: any venue will maximise return on investment by charging the maximum that the market will bear. If the market–the viewing public in this case–refuses to bear, i.e. pay, those highway robbery prices, the movie theatres will be forced to reduce the prices to more acceptable rates.
I think that is the reason thy so many people are using internet sites such as http://www.ultra-vid.com
Some say that these sites are the reason for soaring prices but actually they have no effect. Watching a cam copy as opposed to be big screen is not the most desirable of ways to view a movie but there are many people that cannot afford the ticket prices or that have farther to travel to the nearest cinema.
One of the common misconceptions about movie theaters is that they make a killing off ticket sales. In fact, the theater only keeps about 10% of the ticket sales, the rest goes to the studio. That’s why movie stars get paid so much. The only way the theater can stay in business is by it’s concession sales(which is why the food is also overpriced).
